I am not an early morning person. I’d love to be but it just hasn’t happened yet in my life. Running at night, watching the sky go from stars to the sliver of a moon and planet rise, listening to the birds wake up, followed by the hue and spectrum of the cool desert sunrise – these are all things that make this transition worth it. (That, and the alternative to running in 107 degree temps). Making the desert down into Hanksville, UT this morning. . . . . #transamericana

I don’t have a very good poker face for pain. This picture pretty much sums up how I was feeling during the last 10 miles or so of the #montblancmarathon ! It was a super competitive race that ended up having around 10,000′ of climbing. What surprised me was the technicality of the trails on some of the downhills! My legs were not happy for that and I didn’t have the “variable running economy” I needed to compete at the level I wanted to (I also probably should have done more than one 20 mile long run in the past two months…which is really disturbing considering I have #utmb later this summer!). Lesson learned. This was also my 3rd competitive race in 3 weeks! Mountain running in Europe is always a challenge and I’m learning a lot with each failure. Always seeking for improvement! Congrats to all the runners this weekend! The trails around Chamonix (steep as they may be!) are always a special treat. Now it’s time to transition to “long range climbing and descending” and try to super extend the endurance for UTMB. Time for some big volume and big vertical in training! #timetofly #sagerunning @hokaoneone @compressport @julbousa @nathansportsinc @florahealthy @drymaxsocks @stravarun @trailbutter @spring_energy @ugobars Photo Credit: Timothee Nalet @timnalet
A native of Oregon, Sage Canaday began trail running and competing in ultra marathons in spring of 2012. Since then Canaday has mixed it up with more technical and extreme SkyRunning courses such as Transvulcania and Speedgoat, and looks to continue competing at a high level on the roads and trails with a focus on becoming one of the best Mountain-Ultra-Trail (“MUT”) runners in the world. Along with Instagram, you can find him doling out ‘sage’ advice on his YouTube channel.
Throwing it back to the last time I ran at a USA Championship event! Tonight I am racing at the 2017 USA Outdoor Championships. My prelim is scheduled for 5:25 PM. Nobody ever “wins” or “loses” a prelim, there are simply those that advance and those that do not. I will need to finish in the top 2 of my prelim in order to advance to tomorrow’s semi-finals. If I fail to advance, my 20 year T&F career ends today! #DoOrDie #nslastlap #tbt #yearofthebison #sacramento2017 #running #sprinting #800m
